Breaking news: it's hot as balls outside. I'm sure none of you are aware of this little tidbit, as I'm sure you are all living under a rock. Surely, 90% of your Facebook or Twitter newsfeed isn't of people complaining about the heat or posting iPhone screencaps of the weather forecast, or my personal favorite, pictures of car thermometers. We get it, it's hot. Everywhere. Pipe down.
I tried out a new class today. My parents live in a 55+ country club community and they are lucky to have a pretty nice workout center, which is included in the homeowner fees. Maybe I should say that I'm the lucky one, as I actually use it and they don't (and should). Minor details. My mom's friend goes to Zumba 3x a week and asked if I'd like to join. So I've been going for about three weeks now. It's fun and I definitely break a sweat, but let's face it. It's not going to be as challenging as a class with a bunch of people in their twenties. The instructor recommended her step/weight intervals class, so I decided to go this morning. I don't own a heart rate monitor (but plan on buying one with birthday money, so suggest a good one around $100!), but I was literally dripping two songs in, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is a way better workout. Of course, there are many modifications, and you get what you put in. I used 5 pound weights and my arms were sore, let me tell you. I give those ladies who are in their sixties and seventies a ton of credit. I hope I'm sweating my balls off in a gym when I'm their age.
I'm in cycle two of the 17 day diet, which means that I can start to introduce some whole grains and legumes into my diet. After class, I had a yummy Publix peach passion fruit mango yogurt with 1/3 cup of Cascadian Farms granola. I get super tired of yogurt, so it was nice to have a crunch. For lunch, I had a delicious salad with romaine and baby spinach, ground turkey with taco seasoning, 1/4 cup black beans, hard boiled egg, fat free cheese and fat free sour cream. SO good. I ate almost 5 hours ago and I've been totally satisfied since. Love it when that happens.
Last night, I got out the diet book and started to come up with a meatless plan. I even found some videos of Dr. Mike (the creator) himself saying that it's totally doable for vegetarians or those with other dietary needs (such as gluten free) to follow. I'll post when I finish it!
The skies have finally decided to open up here, and it's gloomy and rumbly outside. I think I'll go back to my book. There's something about reading in a dark room while it pours outside that's pretty damn peaceful.
