You win some, you lose some.

I've scored some pretty sweet deals in the past week, so I thought I'd post them!

I actually paid full price for this and I was weary at first because of the bold horizontal stripes. My friend sprung a last minute beach trip on me, so I figured I'd buy it and if it didn't work out, I'd (begrudgingly) wear something I already own. Um... I LOVE it. Seriously, I think I might be obsessed. It's ridiculously flattering. Given the length, which makes my torso look longer and therefore makes me look taller, it's like losing 10 pounds. Aside from being ridiculously flattering, it's just so classic. I feel like vintage Barbie. All I need are some white cateye sunglasses and red lips.

When maxi dresses starting popping up everywhere a year or so ago, I wasn't too keen on the trend. It seemed like only tall, super thin people could pull them off. Then more and more people started to wear them, and I was envious of tall girls because they look so comfortable and effortless. A couple of months ago I decided I wanted one. I first saw this dress in blue/green on Katy and thought it was adorable. The other day at Target, I found it amongst the sale items for $20. I'm only 4'11, but it actually wasn't as long as I was expecting. In fact, it was almost the perfect length with wedges (granted, 4 inch wedges, but whatever!). But I decided it's more of a sandals kind of dress, so my mom hemmed it for me. I'm in LOVE. It's seriously so cute and again, makes me look longer. I am all for looking taller!

Gap was having a major sale this week! All of the markdowns were an additional 50% off. Um, jackpot. I spotted this dress on the rack and it was marked down to $20, meaning it would be a whopping $10. SUPER CUTE and comfy! It's a bit big, but it looks cute bunched up a little at the waist. It's a super soft jersey material and could easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. I wouldn't have paid the original pricetag of $64, but for $10? I would have been insane to put it back!

These shorts were also marked down to $20, making them $10. They were pretty picked over, but I grabbed a white pair in my size. I've wanted white shorts that are thick enough so they're not completely see through, so I figured I'd try these. I really like the material - they can be either casual or a bit dressier depending on what you pair with them. And again, for $10, I like them that much more.

The Loft site is down for maintenance, so I'm not sure if it's available online or not. I actually got this in olive green. I would have gotten more colors because I loved the way it fit, but it was the only color in an XS. I've been really into olive lately though (even though like maxi dresses, I never thought I could pull it off), so it all worked out. Loft was also having a great sale on markdowns. Everything was an additional 40% off. It was marked down to $24, so I scored it for around $15. I like the slight sleeve and the bubbled hem. I also got a cute necklace for a whopping $2.

Another Loft purchase. This open cardigan was marked down to $20, so I got it for $12. It's a bit big, but it's super comfortable. I certainly don't have much of a use for it in Florida, but who doesn't love a cozy cardigan, regardless of the season? It would be cute with my white shorts and a tank if there's ever a breeze in this damn state. Dream on, sister.

Remember when I posted about my $12 Walmart capris? I decided to try out Old Navy's bermuda version, because after all, it's hot as balls down here. I happened to stumble upon a 35% off code, so they were $16. I also got the matching sports bra (of course) for $6. Who doesn't like to workout in coordinating clothes? Come on. Which leads me to my next purchase...

Praising the Old Navy gods for this one. I hate anything that clings to my stomach. Sorry, no can do. I like my tops blousy. Same goes for activewear. I bought a few compression tanks at various places, but I just felt too uncomfortable. I decided to give these bubble tanks a try and give my usual cotton school/camp counselor t-shirts a rest. They're a little loose in the bust, but overall, I really like them. They were $11 a piece, which is a pretty great deal considering a similar top at Target would probably be around $20.

Of course, with so many good deals and flattering pieces comes the not so pretty. Among the flops were my beloved Gojane dress (huge on top and WAY too tight on the bum), BCBGeneration wedges (SUPER tight and narrow in the toe), Old Navy tunic (HUGE), Old Navy tie-waist shorts (I'm actually going to keep them because they were only $7, but they're a little tight right now, which made them kind of short. Since they're cute and were cheap, I'll keep them for a bit and see what happens), and Calypso St. Barth for Target dress (HUGE on me, but it was only $10 so my mom tried it on. It looks super cute on her, so at least it worked for one of us!). You win some, you lose some.

I have a wedding to go to next month (on my birthday! What a great excuse to dress up), and I cannot find a dress that I don't hate for the life of me. Normally I find TOO MANY dresses when I don't need them, and now that I do, nothing is flattering. Go figure. I have two and a half weeks to try to find something, and maybe in the meantime I'll lose a few more pounds. I've lost 6 so far, so we'll see.

  1. Congrats on losing 6lbs already- your hard work is definitely paying off. :-) I love the white shorts and the tankini (wish we had Target here). I'm also inspired to try a maxi dress, thanks to you! I'm 5'2" and like you, always assumed that I was too short to pull them off.
