Are there any foods that you WANT to like, because they're good for you, but you just can't bring yourself to try them? Or, you had one bad experience, and you've sworn off of it for life? Enter: Greek yogurt.
After hearing a lot about Greek yogurt, I decided to give it a go. I'm kind of weird about yogurt, and really only like a few different flavors and brands. But given the protein content and the fact that it was all the rage, I thought I'd try it. I bought a single carton of Chobani pineapple last year, after hearing a lot of people talk about the brand and how good the flavors are. My first mistake was smelling it before I tried it. I'm also really weird about smells. As in, I smell everything. Food, cups/glasses, plates. I don't know why. Maybe I'm making sure it's clean... or maybe I'm just a little OCD. Whatever.
So yeah, first whiff: GROSS. Smelled sour and disgusting, and I knew I wouldn't like it. Verdict: YUCK. Tasted pretty much exactly how it smelled. I promptly chucked it into the garbage, swearing off of Greek yogurt.
Then I started to read about how it can be used for so many things. I decided to try it as a substitute for sour cream, and I liked that. But... I still can't fathom how people can eat a carton of something that tastes like sour cream.
I decided one of my goals for the new year is to learn to tolerate Greek yogurt. I thought maybe I should start with adding it to smoothies. A 6 ounce container has around 14 grams of protein, so I figured that'd be a nice, filling breakfast to take to school with me. I'm already figuring that I'm barely going to have time to eat my lunch while working with my little second grade friends all day, so I might as well start the day off with a smoothie packed with protein.
I think my next purchase from Amazon will be a Blender Bottle to take said smoothies with me. The price varies by color, but this one is $7.05 and is eligible for free shipping with prime. Not bad!
What are some foods that you feel like you SHOULD like, but just can't get on board?
Plain Greek yogurt is definitely kind of "meh" by itself. I like Chobani Honey Flavored Greek yogurt with plain granola mixed in, and I'll eat the plain Greek yogurt mixed with strawberries and granola, but by itself...no thanks.
ReplyDeleteAs for foods that I feel like I should like but don't...sushi. I just don't get it. I've tried numerous kinds, cooked and not, at at least three or four different restaurants, and I just don't like it.
I like the flavored greek yogurts only...and the ones that have more fat in them, lol. I feel the same way about plain nonfat greek yogurt though..
